Hello! Things have happened! For one, the SNES album is done and out and on bandcamp as of a week ago. It's free and it sounds absolutely awesome, so check it out if you are at all interested in what people are doing with SNES sounds these days.
SPC XIII also ended! I assume everyone has been made aware of this by now as it was even longer ago (oops). The winner was, again, PROTODOME, and it is easy to see why, but there were many great entries this time (none of which came from me).
Finally, and most urgently, SPC XIV (that's 14 for you barbarians in the audience), is starting. It is organised by veteran participant blue.nocturne and you can find the relevant information in this neat little page made by zenkusa.
Details are on the contest page as usual, but today was the deadline for SPC XIII entries! We expect voting to take two weeks. Also, don't forget that snescompo is ending in November too! And of course, there will be another SPC sooner or later.
Edit: Oh, I neglected to post the results of SPCXII to the database. The winner was the legendary PROTODOME with Etude 1 For MIDI Slap Bass.
Been awhile, hasn't it? We're now voting on SPC XII, which is absolutely massive. But I imagine at this point that everyone who really cares is on Discord and has already been informed. But maybe I am Discord-centric. In any case, stay tuned for the end of voting and results for that contest!
Today's headline is the start of SPC XIII, which I imagine will also be absolutely massive. SPC XIII has an optional Halloween theme similar to SPC IX last year. Aside from that, the rules are (to my knowledge anyway) not changed from the previous contest. Send 1 or 2 of your (optionally) Halloweeniest samples to SHAN#4438 on Discord, or spc at beam saber dot com via email before the end of day Monday, Aug 24 (EDT. I've linked to the exact time). A more complete description of the rules can be found here.
We've decided to have a new, non-competitive compo based around using SNES instruments! The deadline will be 6 months from today. This was all very recently thrown together. The current name for this project is snescompo but let me know if you have something better! Anyone is welcome but please make sure you read all about it before getting started.
And since we have a new kind of compo, that means the name spc.beamsaber.com no longer makes a lot of sense, so I changed that. The old site is still online but it will eventually be replaced with redirects to here, so update your bookmarks to compo.beamsaber.com (if you're the type who uses bookmarks).
Sample submission for SPC XII starts today and lasts until May 25 2020, with the songwriting part of the contest going on after that. This SPC is hosted by HVB so check out the details over at his website.
In other news, it looks like we're going to be starting up another type of compo soon, so this site will be moved/renamed to accommodate that! This page will be updated with more information tomorrow.
Congratulations to HVB/damifortune, who submitted numerous popular entries in addition to making the winning track, California Rose Gold Rush! If you haven't heard the album yet, you can download it here.
Pages are now generated by pulling the relevant information from a database. This should cut back on the amount of time spent (by me, or whoever else), manually editing pages.
This page is under construction. Until everything is sorted out, the best place to ask for information is on vgmusic.com's discord server.
The next SPC will be hosted by HVB, aka damifortune. Submission is going on until Christmas! The site page, set up by HVB, is right over here: hvbmusic.net
Congratulations to Tony Thai for winning with his very slick jam, Ghost Town Funk!
The complete album is free on Bandcamp.
